Description
Toya on the extreme right with a headband holds one end of the mat being dyed. Anthropologist Lissant Bolton defines 'singo' as a "textile used to signify achieved rank or status" in Unfolding the Moon: Enacting Women's Kastom in Vanuatu (2003). 'Longo' is the ceremonial pudding or laplap made for the occasion. Both the pudding and the mats are "cooked."
