Description
Portrait of Martin Mera of Lovunbise Village, near Navonda, who was an ex-schoolteacher. In 1970, he was the caretaker of the Malawisi Council House, where the Rodmans stayed for 14 months. Martin became their first friend, interviewee, and language teacher. By 1993, he had become wealthy by selling prestige garden produce such as melons to hotels in Vila.
