Full-length portrait of a bearded African American man, facing front, standing next to a small table. He is wearing a double-breasted frock coat with peaked lapels over a vest and shirt. His hat is rests on the table. His vest is closed by the top and bottom buttons only, and the 2nd from the bottom button is missing.

"R. Rodgers," is printed in red below image. Card mount has been cut through a 2nd line of text. Compared with images of undamaged CdVs from this photographer found online, that text read, "Opposite the Cary House, Placerville, Cal.". "Placerville" is written in pencil of back of card.
