The photograph of Ruan Jie, Kunming TV hostess, was taken at Luo Xu's three day and night Chinese culture celebration in a wine district two hours away from Kunming which Chinese from all over China attended. Professional and local musicians, dancers and singers performed, people drank alcohol, smoked Cuban cigars and discreetly “joints” and danced together around bond fires .The Brazilian carnival like atmosphere was a reminder that many parts of Yunnan Provence function as liberated zones where Chinese can spontaneously express themselves freely in ways they would not be able to in other regions of China where there is more social conformity. A perfect example is when this young TV hostess gave me a kiss on the lips in front of my wife one night after I told her a sad story from my life. My wife didn't mind, because we were at a party, and she knew the kiss would make me feel young again.
