Description
On Friday, November 22, 2019, the Tell Us How UC It timeline was exhibited as part of a Revelle College res life event called "Spray your Speech." The organizers described the event as "This is a program with the goal of informing residents about their responsibility regarding individual free speech. We plan on having a variety of events happening in Revelle Plaza, including: • A giant plywood wall upon which to spray paint your freedom of speech message. • An "Ask a Lawyer" booth with Student Legal Services and a lawyer present. • Chalking of the Plaza. • Student Organized Voter Access Committee (SOVAC) tabling to register people to vote" - Sudarshan Srinivasan, Beagle RA for Revelle College." Real-time feedback was collected as part of exhibiting the Tell Us How UC It timeline with the prompt: In the context of the history of this campus and what affects it, what are your thoughts on free speech on campus? Thinking about the most current events, does hate speech count as free speech? How do you feel about free speech vs safe speech (safe spaces)? Do you feel you can speak honestly on campus?
