Description
Photograph of Ai Weiwei, (Center) with Chihung Yang (R) and Shen Chen (L) in front of art gallery in Manhattan. It was taken while Ai Weiwei was visiting NYC where he lived for several years. Ai Weiwei was famous and had a reputation as an innovative artist by this time, but it was before he gained an international reputation as a political activist. Ai Weiwei ‘s father was the famous poet Ai Qing. He attended Beijing Film Academy in the late 1970s and was a member of the experimental and politically conscious art group Xing Xing during the early 1980’s.He is now living in exile in Berlin.
