Description
YES campaign: Chile's obstacles include: communism, disorder, inflation, misery, and underdevelopment. Some want to return to the past and erase the progress Chile has made. Chile is a world leader in forestry. Juan Gonzalez (entrepreneur) states the "product" NO is selling is bad. Monica Izquierdo (entrepreneur) talks about how hard it was to find merchandise for her business before Pinochet. She does not want to return to those times. YES will make things better through democracy. YES is winning against NO. The majority of Chile's exports are from agriculture. Chile feeds 90 other countries worldwide. Development in Chile must continue to maintain its progress. A farmer explains that the Pinochet regime has kept its promise to improve agriculture through government aid and water rights. Vote YES so progress does not stop. Chileans have overcome misery and obtained freedom. They do not deserve to return to violence and chaos from terrorism. Guillermo, a burn victim, retells his encounter with terrorism while on a bus. The opposition (NO) lies. NO campaign: Mothers of disappeared people unite and dance. Performance by Sting for "They Dance Alone." Women demand a fair just political space, not one created by patriarchy. TV networks do not show peaceful protests because they are an accomplice to the Pinochet regime. José Zalaquett explains that torture degrades society because it dehumanizes people. Truths need to be told about Chile's torture history. Olga Garrido explains that she was kidnapped and tortured. She is traumatized by what happened to her, and she wants Chile to return to a better, safer place. A young woman, Carolina Toha, does not want to live the next 8 years of her life under Pinochet. She wants progress and a better future. Patricio Bañados says it is impossible to spy during voting; votes are private and confidential.
