Alfonso Gómez Jerez nació en 1935 en Otero, Toledo. Alfonso relata que su padre, Jesús Gómez Jiménez, era jornalero en Madrid. Cuenta que su padre fue forzado a unirse al Ejército Republicano poco después del estallido de la Guerra Civil y desapareció en algún lugar del Frente de Extremadura. Alfonso explica que después de la desaparición de su padre, su madre trabajó limpiando casas en Madrid. Nota que su madre le puso bajo la tutela del Auxilio Social en 1942. Alfonso describe los diez años que pasó en un centro del Auxilio Social en Ciudad Lineal, donde conoció a Franco y su esposa varias veces. Comenta que en 1952, su madre le llevó a vivir a su pueblo, Erustes, en Toledo. Alfonso recuenta que se mudó a Alemania en 1964 y trabajó allí en la industria de joyería hasta los años noventa. Narra que al regresar a España se unió al Partido Socialista Obrero Español. Alfonso habla sobre cómo llegó a enterarse de las exhumaciones de fosas comunes a principio de la década del 2000, y detalla sus esfuerzos para ubicar y recuperar los restos de su padre.
Alfonso Gómez Jerez was born in 1935 in Otero, Toledo. Alfonso recounts that his father, Jesús Gómez Jiménez, was a day laborer in Madrid. He tells that his father was forced to join the Republican Army shortly after the outbreak of the Civil War and disappeared somewhere in the Extremadura Front. Alfonso explains that after his father's disappearance, his mother worked cleaning houses in Madrid. He notes that his mother placed him in the care of the Auxilio Social (a welfare institution) in 1942. Alfonso describes the ten years he spent at an Auxilio Social center in Ciudad Lineal, where he met Franco and his wife several times. He comments that in 1952, his mother took him to live in her village, Erustes, in Toledo. Alfonso relates moving to Germany in 1964 and working there in the jewelry industry until the 1990s. He narrates joining the Partido Socialista Obrero Español (Spanish Socialist Party) upon his return to Spain. Alfonso discusses how he found out about the exhumations of mass graves in the early 2000s, and details his efforts to locate and recover his father's remains
