Chief Joseph Maori was of 'mambu' rank, the second highest in the 'hungwe.' Joseph was one of Mathias Tariundu's closest friends and political allies. He lived in Lolovoli, one of the main villages in the neighboring district of Malavung. Beside him, a young man grinds kava.
