Miguel Ibáñez Guzmán nació en Madrid en 1971. Miguel explica que su padre, Miguel Guzmán Aparicio, le ha aportado su manera de pensar y ver el mundo, su amor por la ciencia y las artes, y el respeto a la libertad de expresión y pensamiento. Recuenta que a través de los recuerdos de su padre tiene un entendimiento de la Segunda República, la Guerra Civil, y la posguerra. Miguel narra que su padre nació en 1908, se licenció en Bellas Artes en los años 1930s en la Escuela de Artes y Oficios de Valencia, y trabajó como maestro. Cuenta que durante los años 1940s, su padre promovía una escolarización laica y fundó la Unión de Intelectuales Libres. Miguel nota que aunque las actividades de su padre eran pacíficas, la Guardia Civil le detuvo y le hizo irse de Valencia. Relata que su padre se fue a Madrid, fundó con unos amigos la Unión Industrial Cinematográfica (UNINCI), y produjo películas como Bienvenido Mister Marshall y Viridiana. Miguel señala que UNINCI no pudo desarrollar más proyectos después de que la Iglesia Católica española censuró Viridiana, pero su padre siguió trabajando en el cine hasta que se reincorporó a la enseñanza en los años 1970s. Recuerda cómo él y su padre vivieron la muerte de Franco, la Transición, la legalización del Partido Comunista en 1977, y el golpe de estado de 1981. Miguel habla sobre la recuperación de la memoria histórica. Miguel Ibáñez Guzmán was born in Madrid in 1971. Miguel explains that his father, Miguel Guzmán Aparicio, influenced his way of thinking and viewing the world, his love for science and the arts, and his respect for freedom of expression and thought. He recounts having an understanding of the Second Republic, the Civil War, and the postwar through his father's memories. Miguel narrates that his father was born in 1908, obtained his B.A. in Fine Arts in the 1930s from the Valencia School of Arts and Crafts, and worked as a teacher. He tells that during the 1940s, his father promoted secular education and founded the Unión de Intelectuales Libres (Union of Free Intellectuals). Miguel notes that although his father's activities were peaceful, the Civil Guard detained him and made him leave Valencia. He relates that his father went to Madrid, founded with friends the Unión Industrial Cinematográfica (UNINCI), and produced films such as Welcome Mister Marshall and Viridiana. Miguel indicates that UNINCI was unable to carry out other projects after the Spanish Catholic Church censored Viridiana, but his father continued working in film until he returned to teaching in the 1970s. He remembers how he and his father experienced Franco's death, the Transition, the legalization of the Communist Party in 1977, and the 1981 coup d'état.
