Description
After the death of his father, Senior Chief Nsama, Paul served as Acting-Chief until a new successor was appointed. In the matrilineal kinship system, sons cannot succeed their fathers as chiefs. The certificate is dated 1962 and is presented "in the name of Queen Elizabeth II". When this photo was taken, Mr. Nsama was serving as the government's local ward councilor for his section of Nsama village.
