R/V Stranger (ship) at dock, noted Danish oceanographer Anton Frederick Bruun is waving from the deck of the ship. Bruun's life was devoted to international oceanography. He was actively involved in the establishment of bodies like SCOR, IACOMS, IABO, and the IOC and was elected IOC's (Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission) first chairman in 1961. June 15, 1959
