Description
NO campaign: Mothers of disappeared people unite and dance. Patricio Bañados explains that NO invited Pinochet to speak about issues affecting Chile on the NO segment; however, Pinochet has not responded to the invitation. Chileans fighting each other because of political differences. Patricio Bañados urges Chileans to gather around the TV for the special segments representing NO. Doña Yolita segment shows extreme poverty under Pinochet. TV can portray unrealistic living conditions of ideal happy and wealthy citizens living in a fair and just society. However, more than 12 million Chileans live in poverty. Footage of children eating at soup kitchens. The soup kitchen representative states she is not against the government; she is against the dictatorship that is bringing poverty and injustice to Chileans. Dr. Rene Cortazar (PhD in Economics) talks about the Chilean economy, wages, and spending power. He states that democratic governments focus on bettering the economy to decrease poverty. YES campaign: Criticism of Patricio Aylwin. Isla de Pascua celebrates its integration into the rest of Chile by welcoming Pinochet. YES spokeswoman talks about socioeconomic progress that is making Chile a leader, pointing to a decline in poverty and unemployment rates. Jorge Alessandri's presidency left Chile in a bad state. Pinochet has worked to move Chile forward by bringing progress and modernity. The life expectancy has improved for Chileans and is said to be the highest in South America. Jaime Bulnes Sanfuentes (member of the National Advancement Political Commission) talks about Patricio Aylwin and shows footage of Aylwin talking about Salvador Allende and the armed forces. The camera focuses on Aylwin speaking of socialism, Popular Unity, and violence. Sanfuentes emphasizes that Aylwin is contradictory, now siding with the socialists he claimed to disagree with. Chilean youth have the right to build their own democratic future. Andres Chadwick (UDI) talks about a man named Simon that was killed by Marxists for not complying with them.
