Ángeles García Madrid recuenta que tenía trece años cuando empezó a trabajar en un taller de costura en 1931. ángeles habla sobre entrar en un Círculo Socialista, las elecciones de 1936, el bienio negro (1934-36), y los bombardeos y el hambre durante la Guerra Civil. Recuerda que estuvo encargada del grupo que hacía uniformes para la Brigada 49. ángeles relata que estuvo detenida en la cárcel de Ventas por un año y detalla sus horribles condiciones. Destaca que se defendió en el tribunal cuando fue juzgada en 1940. ángeles señala que le dieron la pena de muerte y su sentencia fue reducida a doce años de cárcel. Cuenta que días después le hicieron otra denuncia, la encarcelaron en Tarragona por doce días luego en la Prisión de Les Corts y en Gerona, y salió en libertad a resultado de un decreto. ángeles narra que afrontó dificultades buscando empleo y encontró trabajo en un taller de sastre y después como pantalonera. Describe su militancia en el Partido Socialista Obrero Español y la Asociación de Ex-presos y Represaliados Políticos Antifranquistas. ángeles nota que empezó a escribir poesía a la edad de trece años. Indica que el primer libro que editó fue Poemas desde la cárcel, explica las dificultades que enfrentó tratando de publicar Réquiem por la libertad, y comenta sobre sus premios. ángeles recita sus poemas “No llames a la puerta” y “A trece flores caídas”. Ángeles García Madrid recounts beginning to work in a sewing shop in 1931 at age thirteen. Ángeles speaks about joining a Socialist Circle, the 1936 elections, the bienio negro (1934-36), and the bombardments and hunger during the Civil War. She recalls overseeing the group that made uniforms for the 49 Brigade. Ángeles relates being detained in the Ventas prison for a year and details its horrible conditions. She tells of defending herself in court during her trial in 1940. Ángeles remembers being given the death penalty and having her sentence reduced to twelve years in prison. She narrates being accused again days later, imprisoned in Tarragona for twelve days then in the Les Corts Prison and in Gerona, and released as a result of a decree. Ángeles discusses facing difficulties seeking employment and finding work in a tailor's shop and later as a pants maker. She describes her militancy in the Partido Socialista Obrero Español (Spanish Socialist Party) and the Asociación de Ex-presos y Represaliados Políticos Antifranquistas (Association of Former Political Prisoners and Anti-Francoist Fighters). Ángeles notes beginning to write poetry at age thirteen. Her first edited book was "Poemas desde la cárcel", and explains the difficulties trying to publish "Réquiem por la libertad", and comments on her awards.
