Bush to his mother as he moves to San Diego during the land boom of 1887. The letters are dated July-September of 1887. Working for wages as a surveyor, he writes of his hopes of investing in real estate and making a quick fortune. Although he starts out with high hopes, by August, Bush is ready to give up and return home, until a sudden reversal of events in early September causes him to stay in San Diego, where his investment in a lot in Tijuana and some new surveying work enable him to remain. The letters give detailed information on land prices and methods of buying new lots, expenses for everyday living and other details of work and life. Among the places mentioned are Sweetwater Dam, La Presa, Cajon Valley, Coronado, Oceanside, San Jacinto, Otay Valley, Redlands, and Tijuana Title supplied by cataloger
