The salvage of two barrels from the wrecked "Loma" given to the Marine Biological Association of San Diego by E.W. Scripps for research purposes, it ran aground near the lighthouse on Point Loma on July 25, 1906. The Association became the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. July 25, 1906
