Description
— Concepción López Mamani is a member of the communities of Coyo and Tulor. In his interview he speaks primarily about sources of water in the community and about his experience traveling by donkey to take flocks of sheep to graze around the Tebenquiche lagoon in the 40s. In his opinion, the lithium mine as much as the well made by Corporación Nacional de Desarrollo Indígena (CONADI) have contributed to drying up underground water layers in the community. Concepción also recounts how farming used to be done with the plow, and how the trueque functioned in indigenous communities in Bolivia. In the second part, he explains how life used to be in the Salar de Atacama, how children were educated, what type of parties were celebrated, and which sicknesses people in Coyo suffered from. He ends the interview demanding, once again, that water sources be respected because water means life.
