Description
The Republic of Vanuatu Electoral and Identity Card, required for the first election of officials in 1981, were discontinued at some point after this election. The Vanuatu Daily Post reported in August 23, 2017 a bill that would go before Parliament in November to again require identification cards. These would be used for banking purposes, passport checks or may be required by government authorities to be shown on demand under specified circumstances. The bill was not passed.
