Description
A small plane instrumented with longwave-infrared uncooled (IR) cameras, visible (RGB) cameras, and a dual along-track interferometric synthetic aperture radar (ATI-SAR) served the inner shelf and surfzone along the central CA coast between Oceano Beach in the north to Point Sal in the south in early summer 2015. Flight patterns varied to map and quantify phenomena in the innershelf including kilometer-scale water masses, internal wave morphology and motion, and sea surface temperature variability and mixing and surfzone-inner shelf exchange via rip currents. IR and ATI-SAR data were mapped and geolocated using a precision onboard inertial navigation system (GPS and inertial motion unit). The data in this archive include gelocated and mosaicked IR imagery (raw, not calibrated, but corrected for intra-image variation). ATI-SAR data was processed for surface velocity and backscatter-power maps and quick look imagery.
