Description
Xiao Lu is an important female installation artist. Her instillation Dialogue which involved her shooting a pistol into a reconstructed telephone booth at the China Avant-garde Exhibition at the National Art Museum in Beijing in 1989 is considered to be one of the first feminist art works. The exhibition was shut down by the Chinese government, and Xiao Lu had to go into hiding and seek exile in Australia. Xiao Lu wrote a memoir of her experiences when she returned to China.
