Description
In 1986, Professor James (Jim) Lin taught the first Asian American Studies course at UC San Diego. He obtained Academic Senate approval for a Minor in Asian American Studies in 1988 and this led to the creation of an Ethnic Studies department in 1990. As part of the Asian Pacific Islander American Heritage Celebration (APIAHC), Jim Lin talked about the hurdles he faced and why Asian American Studies is still relevant.
