Enrique Casañas nació en 1919 en Barcelona. Enrique describe la afiliación izquierdista, Libertaria, y Republicana de su familia. Narra que cuando la Guerra Civil comenzó, tenía diecisiete años y pertenecía a la Comisión Nacional del Trabajo, el Movimiento Libertario, y la Federación Ibérica de Juventudes Libertarias. Enrique reitera que formó parte del Frente de Aragón, el Frente de Belchite, y la 25 División. Habla sobre Antonio Ortiz Ramírez y Joaquín Ascaso Budría. Enrique indica que su hermano peleó en la guerra y estuvo detenido durante seis meses en León. Relata que se unió a un barco para defender a Cataluña con tres mil voluntarios. Enrique explica que Barcelona cayó dos días después, entonces tuvieron que bajar en Palamós y retirarse a Francia. Recuenta que fue puesto en campos de concentración en Argelès-sur-Mer y Le Barcarès. Enrique recuerda que salía de los campos en compañías de trabajo de doscientos cincuenta hombres, y especifica el tipo de trabajo que hacía. Detalla que se fue a Marsella, donde el Consulado de México les dio documentación mexicana a los refugiados españoles. Enrique destaca que regresó a Barcelona en 1944. Cuenta que se exilió en Brasil en 1951 y vivió allí por veintitrés años. Enrique señala que volvió a España poco antes de la muerte de Franco, y comenta sobre la Transición y la situación política actual. Enrique Casañas was born in 1919 in Barcelona. Enrique describes his family's leftist, Libertarian, and Republican political affiliation. He narrates that when the Civil War began, he was seventeen years old and was part of the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (National Labor Confederation), the Libertarian Movement, and the Federación Ibérica de Juventudes Libertarias (Iberian Federation of Libertarian Youth). Enrique relates forming part of the Aragón Front, the Belchite Front, and the 25 Division. He speaks about Antonio Ortiz Ramírez and Joaquín Ascaso Budría. Enrique indicates that his brother fought in the war and was detained for six months in León. He tells of boarding a ship to defend Catalonia with three thousand volunteers. Enrique explains that Barcelona fell two days later, so they had to disembark in Palamós and retreat to France. He recounts being placed in concentration camps in Argèles-sur-Mer and Le Bacarès. Enrique remembers leaving the camps in work companies comprised of two hundred and fifty men, and specifies the type of work he carried out. He details going to Marseille, where the Mexican Consulate gave the Spanish refugees Mexican identification documents. Enrique recalls returning to Barcelona in 1944. He discusses seeking exile in Brazil in 1951 and living there for twenty-three years.
