Scripps Institution of Oceanography's scientific research vessel Horizon, originally a 143-foot sea going tug for the US Navy, she was acquired in 1948 for the institution through Roger Revelle. From 1949 through 1968 she made 267 scientific cruises, spent 4,207 days at sea, and logged 610,522 miles. Circa 1967
