Description
Lakedadauya, owner of this canoe in the background. He is a prominent magician in Wawela village. Wawela is one of the few villages on Kiriwina that has an unobstructed view of the eastern horizon. Lakedadauya keeps the Trobriand calendar, identifying the seasons by the pre-dawn rising of particular stars. His name identifies him as a voyager. La (his) keda (road) dauya (the channel between Kiriwina and Kitava Islands).
