Ángel Herrero Álvarez nació en 1924 en Valderrueda, León. Ángel recuenta que cuando tenía nueve años se mudó a Madrid para vivir con su hermano. Destaca haber sido testigo del estallido de la Guerra Civil en Madrid. En 1937, Ángel fue evacuado de Madrid. Recuerda que estuvo en Alicante y después huyó con cientos de niños de Barcelona a Brest, Francia. Ángel abordó un barco que lo llevó de Francia a Leningrado. Comenta que estudió en la Unión Soviética. Después Ángel luchó contra los Nazis durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Relata que fue capturado y estuvo detenido en un campo de concentración Nazi. Ángel cuenta que al ser liberado del campo en 1943, fue transportado de regreso a España bajo la vigilancia de la Falange.
Ángel Herrero Álvarez was born in 1924 in Valderrueda, León. Ángel recounts moving to Madrid at age nine to live with his brother. He recalls witnessing the outbreak of the Civil War in Madrid. In 1937, Ángel was evacuated from Madrid. He remembers spending time in Alicante and then fleeing with hundreds of children from Barcelona to Brest, France. Ángel boarded a ship that took him from France to Leningrad. He tells of studying in the Soviet Union. Ángel later fought against the Nazis during World War II. He describes being captured and then detained in a Nazi concentration camp. Ángel relates that after being released from the camp in 1943, he was transported back to Spain under the Falange's surveillance
