Description
San Basilio, located north of Loreto BCS, is a small bay that is home to a diverse marine ecosystem that sustains a small community of fishers. A research team from the Centro para la Biodiversidad Marina y la Conservación AC conducted interviews with members of the fishing community to identify relevant socioeconomic aspects. This collaborative effort aims to create a knowledge baseline of the biological diversity in the area, which in turn will help the local community, researchers and government begin discussions on the best conservation and management options. This project also seeks to build local capacities that allow fishers to be directly involved in fisheries and ecological monitoring efforts to assess the health of San Basilio Bay.
