Description
Scope/Content: Manuscript. Scope/Content: Manuscript compilation of sources related to the Exchequer and its officers, mostly taken from the 1685 "The practice of the Exchequer court" by Peter Osborne, but apparently also copied from other manuscript sources, according to notes by the compiler "Fra. Brampton." Brampton actually cites "an ancient manuscript" from the "hands of Mr. R.R. Marriott," a former deputy of the auditor of the Exchequer, but the text appears to be a mostly faithful transcription of the Osborne text. Brampton also cites another manuscript on rules and orders as being from "Mr. Barnard, an ancient officer" of the Remembracer's office. There are also additional notes in a slightly later hand citing other manuscript and print sources. Bound with print copy of the impeachment of Thomas, Earl of Macclesfield. Condition: Bound in contemporary reverse calf, panels in blind on both boards; boards completely detatched with extensive chipping to edges and spine.
