Description
Scope/Content: Manuscript. Mostly in English with some Latin. Running title.
Scope/Content: Volume of autograph poetry by Samuel Woodford, including many works published in A paraphrase upon the Canticles as well as in Henry Brome's The poems of Horace consisting of odes, satyres, and epistles. Most of these poems vary only slightly from the published versions, though others are clearly draft versions with significant differences. Others appear (particularly some work written as a student at Oxford) to have never been published at all. Annotations to most poems mention their place and date of composition, though some also include lengthier dedications or information about the history of their composition. This is clearly a fine copy of these poems, as there are hardly any corrections or emendations made to the majority of the text. The latter part of the volume contains more draft material, works in Latin, family information and a calendar of feast days.
Condition: Bound in full brown calf; rebacked in 1993.
