Description
Scope/Content: Manuscript annotations in printed book.
Scope/Content: Manuscript annotations by a contemporary owner, likely John Willmot, in a copy of Gadbury's Ephemerides. Annotations include notes on various eclipses that he viewed (including one in July 1684 that he saw from Taunton) as well as his observations on various weather phenomena and several different earthquakes. Annotations are quite copious until in May 1698, after which point they become much less frequent. The printed text is followed by several pages of chronological observations of celestial and meteorological phenomena from 1673-1727. It appears likely that John Willmot is the author of all of these annotations, as his hand is somewhat similar; his 1711 ownership inscription was either made later in his ownership, or his annotations were made retroactively, recording information from an earlier diary.
Condition: Bound in contemporary sprinkled calf, very worn and damaged with traces of metal clasps. "IW" blind stamped on both front and back covers. Housed in modern orange cloth case.
