Scope/Content: Interleaved copy of William Winstanley's Lives of the most famous English poets, with annotations throughout by Dr. Thomas Percy, Bishop of Dromore. Annotations consist of textual notes on the pritned text and include citations of other works as well as commentary and additional biographical information about the figures described.
Condition: Bound in mottled calf with marbled endpapers by Riviere and Son in 1887 (as per note written on a preliminary page by Edmund Gosse).

Bookplate of Edmund Gosse on front paste-down endpaper and pencil note from Gosse on first blank: "Notes by Bishop Perry. Perfect. Bound by Riviere, July 1887. Given me by George A. Armour, May 1887. EG." Note on second blank in 19th century hand: "The MS. Notes in this Volume are by Dr Thomas Percy, Bishop of Dromore. J.B. Nichols", which is followed by a pencil note likely in Gosse's hand "In p. 32 is a M.S. note signed 'P.'" and another pencil note in a later hand identifying Nichols's signature. Ownership signature of "Saml Fenton [?]" on title page of printed work.
