Provenance: Inscription in another hand on first page: "Ebenezer Paterson, late schoolmaster of Renfrew the author of this Book was a pious and worthy Character. attested by his pupul at Renfrew 25 Decr. 1824, John Hutchison"; on verso in another hand: "Exercises and Experinces of Mr. Ebenezer Paterson who was twelve years schoolmaster of Kilsyth and fortytwo years schoolmaster of Renfrew where he died on the 16th Novr. 1797 aged 85 years. he was an honest man and a sincere Christian."
