Description: Scope/Content: Manuscript volume of coats of arms and crests for English families, purportedly by arms painter Sylvanus Morgan. This work is bound together with the rent rolls from the Constable estate in Yorkshire (1660-1671), which cover the villages of Burton Constable, Paghill, Newton, Marton, and Ellerby, among others. Includes alphabetical index to family names at the front of the text. It also appears that some additional pages of arms were added at a later date in another hand; some of these later additions are dated with the year the arms were issued (the latest is 1692). Pages have been very closely trimmed for binding and the contemporary page numbers have been obliterated and rewritten on many pages. This volume likely comes from the collection at Burton Constable Hall.
