Description
Scope/Content: Manuscript annotations in printed book.
Scope/Content: Manuscript notes written by anonymous person in the margins of Peter Heylyn's Microcosmos (1625), containing notes on changes in later editions, references to other works, a reference to Shakespeare, and additions to the text. Notes are closely written in a neat and uniform mixed hand, and many pages are written edge to edge. Some text has been lost through trimming and rebinding. Although there appears to be a roughly contemporary ownership inscription on the title page ("H: Grove"), it does not appear to be the same hand responsible for the annotations. Most of the handwritten text is in English, although there are also passages in Greek and Latin.
Condition: Bound in contemporary calf in Cambridge-style binding, title in gilt on red spine label. Both boards detached, housed in marbled paper slipcase with calf spine. Printed text cataloged separately.
