Description: Scope/Content: Manuscript. Ownership inscription on front free endpaper: "I. Willey, Chr. Coll., 1738." Bound in contemporary sheep with blind stamping to covers; wear and chipping to edges; much chipping to spine, but binding is still sturdy.
Scope/Content: Manuscript volume of lecture notes from Cambridge in about 1738, recording lectures by Gervase Holmes on natural philosophy, optics and hydrostatics, and Nicholas Saunderson on astronomy. The notes appear to have been taken by John Willey (1721-1789), who matriculated to Christ College Cambridge in 1737. The notes are neatly written throughout and there are some diagrams on the versos (particularly in the astronomy notes) in addition to a fold-out leaf with a diagram related to the Holmes lectures on optics.
