Description
Scope/Content: Music manuscript. Notes on the manuscript and its composer (dated 1952) laid in at front of volume. Loose pages at beginning and end of text block.
Scope/Content: Late 17th-century music manuscript containing 76 dance tunes for the violin by John Twiss. Songs include courantes, gavottes, minuets, sarabandes and gigues. Following the Twiss pieces, there are 6 anonymous dances songs for vioin in a different hand. At the end of the volume are several leaves of pencil exercises in figured bass realization by a third writer.
Condition: Bound in 17th century Mearne style binding, red morocco, gold-tooled, inlaid, gilt edges, marbled end papers.
