Studio portrait of young "Kate Sandersen De Grasse" (probably Kate J. Grases) in a white dress, wearing an elaborate hat.
Kate J. Grases (Katherine Jefferson Grases), was the daughter of Mary J. Grases, and the granddaughter of J. B. Sanderson, abolitionist and minister of the First A.M.E. Church in Oakland. Newspapers in northern California report her performances as a soprano and a soprano jubilee singer from 1890 to 1918.
