Description
Digitization for the AIIS Center for Art & Archaeology Negatives & Slides collection was sponsored by the Modern Endangered Archives Program with funding from Arcadia. Sculptural fragment of a bas-relief depicting a part of narrative scene which includes Bodhisattva Vajrapani, disciples and monks This object was housed at the National Museum of Afghanistan, Kabul, Afghanistan at the time of photography in 1971, It was documented under the supervision of Dr Walter Spink. Stylistically the sculpture belongs to Gandhara period that ranged from 200 - 499 CE. It was discovered from in Hadda, a major Greco - Buddhist site located near to the city of Jalalabad, in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan. The object material for the sculpture is schist. Museum accession number at the time of documentation was 63.3.439
