Group portrait of the congregation on the front stairs of the First A.M.E. Church (312 Azusa St.).
First A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles is the oldest church founded by African Americans in the City of Angels in 1872. Ms. Biddy Mason established the church to minister to the mind, body, and soul of the community. This church served as the cornerstone of the community for spiritual growth, social uplift, and economic development
Caption: Old Church. Azusa Street. Written on back of photo: First A.M.E. church at 312 Azusa St., Los Angeles. Later moved to 8th and Towne.
