William Grant Still was an American composer, who composed more than 150 works, including five symphonies and eight operas. [Wikipedia]
Employees in the office of the Pace & Handy Music Co. Daniel F. Haynes, head of bookkeeping, is at the cash register and William Grant Still is seated in front of him. Charlie Handie, vice president and sales manager, brother of owner William Handy, is seated on the right. The two women typing are Carrie Collins, who headed the professional and shipping departments, and Adele.
William Christopher Handy was a composer and musician, known as the Father of the Blues. An African American, Handy was one of the most influential songwriters in the United States.
