Description
Two men hold the symbolic key to the Frederick Roberts Park clubhouse as his wife, Pearl Roberts (3rd from right), and daughters, Patricia Roberts (2nd from left) and Gloria Roberts (4th from left) and two women look on. The unidentified people are probably also family members.
Frederick Madison Roberts was a newspaper owner and editor, educator, and business owner. He was also the first African American elected to the California State Assembly. Roberts was a great-grandson of Sally Hemings and President Thomas Jefferson.
