Description
The feasibility study and the field investigations for assessing the groundwater conditions in the Al Salih Tala’i Mosque were made possible with funding by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Grant No. 263-0000-G-00-3089-00 and administered by the Egyptian Antiquities Conservation Project (EAP) of the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE). USAID funded and sponsored a groundwater control initiative designed to eliminate water in the trenches of the Al-Salih Tala’i mosque and enhance the sewage infrastructure in the vicinity. The project started with the removal of accumulated garbage from the trenches and the draining of water from them. Following this, the process involved the removal of all old drains, the clearance of debris generated from the concrete demolition to extract the old pipes, the filling of trenches with sand, the installation of new PVC drains along the trenches, and covering them with gravel. Afterwards, install waterproof sheeting and fill the trenches with sand in preparation for pouring the upper concrete slab. Meanwhile, the microtunneling shaft was being dug up, and the sewage infrastructure in the vicinity was undergoing renovation.
