Description
Digitization for the AIIS Center for Art & Archaeology Negatives & Slides Collection was sponsored by the Modern Endangered Archives Program with funding from Arcadia. Fragment of plaque depicting Triratna or the three jewels This object was housed in the personal collection of Dr. Jagdish Gupta at the time of photography in 1976. Possibly executed using molding and casting technique in-between 300 - 399 CE, this sculpture was recovered from Shahabad, at Hardoi district, Uttar Pradesh. The object material is terracotta. The dimension of the figure is 7.5 (H) x 6.0 (W) cm. Threefold refuge or Tri-ratna in Buddhism represents three major aspects: Buddha, the Enlightened One; Dharma, his teachings and Sangha, the community of believers.
