Sammy (Samuel Henry) Franklin started with the Denver YMCA band (violin, trombone and trumpet) and went onto play with the George Morrison Band in Denver, the Benny Moten Band in Kansas City, and with Andy Kirk, Les Hite, Lionel Hampton and Eddie Barefield. He then formed the Sammy Franklin Orchestra, a society band, that performed in on Central Avenue in Los Angeles during the 1950s.
