Seal of Traividya of Bhallātavāt̗aka
This object was housed at the Archaeological Museum, Nalanda, Bihar, India at the time of photography in 1967. It Is an impression of a circular seal and was executed in-between 700 - 799 CE. Inside the seal, a male divinity figure with protuberant abdomen sits on lotus-seat (padmasana), while below him two lines demarcate the seal into two plane with top having the image and lower portion having Sanskrit inscription written in nagari script. The text is roughly translated as ; "Of the illustrious Traividya, chief of the agrahara of Bhallātavāt̗aka" (1. Bhallātavāt̗aka-āgrahārē[śa]- 2. Śrīmat-Traividyasya). On the top right crescent represents the moon, while on top left there is a circle representing the sun. The divinity figure holds in his right hand a rosary and in his left hand a narrow necked spouted vessel (mangala-kalasa). (Rf. MASI, No/66, p.56, Seal 350).
