Description
Bound in diced brown leather album, with gold-stamped panels on both upper and lower covers; glossy textured white endpapers; all edges gilt; manufacturer's stamp on front pastedown "M. & Co." Considerable foxing on most pages. Photographs are mounted on rectos and versos of 16 leaves of (brittle) white cardboard, one to a page; 13 blank leaves at end are unused; some studio stock numbers and one caption visible in negative; captions added by hand in black ink. Probable range of dates suggested by 1888 publication date of Harris's album "South Africa: illustrated by a series of one hundred and four permanent photographs," eleven of which are included in the UCLA album. Album of large sepia albumen photographs of views of South African cities, and the islands of St. Helena and Madeira.
