Photograph of Rabindranath Tagore (center) arrives by train in Los Angeles as a guest of the University of Southern California. According to the Los Angeles Times, he is accompanied by "S. Datta" (left) who is described as a poet and a student of Tagore (quite possibly Sudhindranath Datta), and A. K. Chanda, of the Calcutta University faculty, a member of the Indian Educational Service. Tagore won the Nobel prize for literature in 1913. A polymath from Bengal, he was a poet, philosopher, playwright and composer held a doctorate in literature from Calcutta university.
