Maude Banks, often described as a millionaire "oil queen" of Wyoming, relocated to Southern California after visiting in 1917. Reported in "The Cloisters: Home of Maude Banks in San Gabriel Valley, where Artistry, Refinement, Natural Beauty and Personality are Strikingly Blended," Los Angeles Times, 1 Jan. 1921: V16.
