Description
The front of the card has a portrait of a brown horse's head, framed by a large horseshoe which reads, "Merchant's Gargling Oil. A Liniment for Man & Beast." The verso of the card consists of text advertising a shoe store, and includes a price list for eight kinds of "solid leather" shoes for men, women and children. Additional text on front of card: Manufactured at Lockport N.Y., by M.G.O. Co., and sold by all druggists. John Hodge, Sec'y. Partial card text from verso: New Shoe Store, Chas. L. Swartz & Co., No. 6 South Pearl Street, Albany, First Shoe Store below State Street. [price list follows] All of the above Goods are Solid Leather. No Prison Work.... Text on front of card: First introduced, 1833. Merchant's Gargling Oil is the standard Liniment of the United States, and is good for Burns, Scalds, Rheumatism, Flesh Wounds, Sprains, Bruises, Lame Back, Hemorrhoids or Piles, Toothache, Sore Throat, Chilblains, Chapped Hands, and many other diseases incident to man and beast.
