Description
Joan Merriam Smith successfully completed her around the world solo flight on May 12, 1964 in her plane named "The City of Long Beach." She received the 1964 Harmon Trophy as outstanding aviator. Unfortunately less than a year later she was killed in an airplane accident in California. GOOD LUCK CHARM-Joan A. Merriam holds good luck teddy bear as she prepares for Oakland take off on her round-the-world 27,000-mile flight.
