ANSWER: The photo shows only a portion of one of the most unusual and picturesque places in the Los Angeles area - Lake Shrine of the Self Realization Federation, 'way out on Sunset Blvd. in the vicinity of Santa Ynez Canyon. What a field day this place offers photographers! Or just plain, wide-eyed tourists, for that matter. Beautiful spot with a strange calmness and where, in a shrine just behind the impressive portal in the photo, is a portion of the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi.
